Shropshire Restaurant Voted Best in the UK By Harden’s Guide

Mr Underhill’s in Ludlow has been voted as the Best Restaurant in the UK - outside of London by the influential Harden’s UK Restaurant guide 2010.

Beating off stiff competition from the likes of top national restaurants, Mr Underhill’s has proved that Shropshire and Ludlow still holds its prestigious title as ‘the best place to eat outside of London’.

Mr Underhill’s in Ludlow is owned and operated by husband and wife team Chris and Judy Bradley. Chris is the chef whilst Judy runs the front of house.

Commenting on the award, Judy Bradley said, “Every January we sit down to plan the year, ever optimistic that it will surpass the last one.  This year being named as ‘The best all round UK restaurant out of London’ by Hardens Guide 2010, has left us reeling. 

When we heard we couldn’t believe it, especially when we saw the list of runners-up.    It’s extra special because of the way Harden’s operates, ratings consider the over-all experience, not just the food.   Awards are given based on reports from guests and we have no idea who contributes, apparently this year our reporters’ ratings have  risen to exceptional levels – blimey!  

It has given us, our team and Ludlow a huge boost, it just doesn’t get better than this.  Each year we aim to move gently onward and upward, more evolution than revolution, but to receive this accolade in our 30th year as Mr Underhill’s is just mind-blowing”.

The Harden guide differs from other food guides in that it ranks restaurants according to the reviews received by guests and food lovers in general who volunteer their own opinions.

The entry in the Hardens Guide describes Mr Underhill’s as ‘This restaurant-with rooms, on the banks of the River Teme in Ludlow, has been a fixture of the ‘Ludlow phenomenon’ for a dozen years. This year has seen the ratings reporters awards – always impressive – rise to exceptional levels, making this the best all-round restaurant across the board.  Husband-and-wife team Chris & Judy Bradley have created a welcoming and unpretentious atmosphere in the airy dining room which looks over a bright courtyard.   The food has been praised for being expertly cooked and beautifully presented, the highlight being the seven course market menu of the day, with an emphasis on locally sourced ingredients.   The food is complemented by an excellent range of reasonably-priced wines.
Now better than ever and even more notable for the sheer perfection it offers.
