Shrewsbury Market Hall awarded the title of Britain's Favourite Market
Today it became official that Shrewsbury’s Market Hall is the best in the country as it was appointed ‘Britain’s Favourite Market’ in the Great British Market Awards Ceremony in Birmingham this lunchtime.
Shrewsbury was competing against markets from all over the country until it was short-listed y public voted to the final six markets including Barrow in Furness, Cambridge, Leeds Kirkgate, Norwich and Skipton in which Shrewsbury scooped up the title.
The Market Hall has undergone a huge transformation in the last few years, and the hard work payed off when it came to the second round of the competition where the market was visited by judges and a mystery shopper.
Shrewsbury Market Hall opened in 1965 and has nearly 70 pitches. Its popularity has escalated in recent years and this was further grown last year when it began opening for regular Saturday night events that attracted crowds of up to 1,700 people during the course of an evening.
