New Sun Dial in place at Wem Sweet Pea Show
The Eckford Sweet Pea Society of Wem is gearing up for its 22nd annual Show which is being held at the Thomas Adam School in Wem on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th July.
Val Good, Secretary of The Eckford Sweet Pea Society of Wem said “This year, in addition to the ever popular stands and demonstrations, visitors to Wem will also be able to see a new sun dial that the Society has donated to the town. It has been put in place on the Millennium Green in time for the event and will be officially opened by the Mayor of Wem, Cllr Mandy Meakin, on the 22nd anniversary of the formation of the Society at a later date.”
The Wem Sweet Pea Show is held in honour of the 18th Century nurseryman Henry Eckford. A special feature of the show is the section for Old Fashioned Sweet Peas, most of them raised in Victorian Times by Henry Eckford, with seeds available by post or from the Eckford Sweet Pea Society of Wem.
The show will have numerous stands offering, advice, membership, raffle, horticultural accessories, willow weaving demonstrations, gifts, cards, souvenirs, perennial plants and of course, seeds for Old fashioned Eckford and Spencer Sweet Peas.
It is not too late to enter sweet peas in the Show; for a schedule contact Val Good on 01948 840779.
