Bee-rilliant May Half Term Activities at Severn Valley Country Park
The Shropshire Council rangers at Severn Valley Country Park are getting ready to celebrate our pollinator friends, bees, with a buzzin’ half term trail and activities. This is all in celebration of the Great British Bee Count citizen science survey that runs from 17th May to 30th June 2018.
The visitor centre and café will be open Saturday 26th May to Sunday 3rd June from 11am – 5pm. We have delicious fresh bean coffee, bread from a local bakery and many other tasty treats our café menu.
From the Visitor Centre you will be able to collect trail maps (£2 each) for our Buzzy Bees Self-Led Trail that will take you on a walk through the park, particularly our wonderful wild flower meadow, to see how many bees your little ones can spot and what you can all learn on the way!
On Wednesday 30th May, we have our Minibeast Mansion Madness activity sessions (10am-12pm and 1.30pm-3.30pm) when children can join us to make a new minibeast mansion for the Park, out of wooden pallets and other materials creepy crawlies like to hide in. They will also get to make their own solitary bee home to take away with them and go on a minibeast hunt (£4 per child).
Then on Thursday 31st May, we have our Buzzin’ Bees Drop-In session (11am-1pm, £4 per child) where children will get a chance to plant an important flower for bees – the sunflower - to take home with them, as well as making a colourful flying bee!
We will also have our usual Buggy Walk taking place from 11am-12pm. This free session offers you and your little one in a buggy a chance to get some fresh air, enjoy the country park in spring, catch up with friends and make new ones.
Finally, on Saturday 2nd June we have our first Rock and Fossil Hunt of the year. Join our expert geologists from 1.30pm-3pm to search for your own carboniferous fossils at Severn Valley Country Park (£4 per child).
