Armed Forces Day For All 3 Services

Armed Forces Day For All 3 Services

Saturday 25th June 2011

Come and celebrate the Museum’s annual joint service Armed Forces Day on Saturday 25th June 2011.

The Royal Air Force Museum Cosford is inviting Veterans, young and old, from all three services to join as one to celebrate Armed Forces Day on Saturday 25th June. During this special reunion, hosted by Museum staff, all Veterans will be treated to a full day’s programme including live music, tours round the Museum’s Conservation Centre, an afternoon tea dance with music from a local swing band and a flypast from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Dakota.

Upon arrival guests will be welcomed to the Museum with free refreshments and a performance from the 451 Stourbridge Squadron Air Training Corps band.  There will also be a chance to speak to some of the exhibitors including the Aerospace Museum Society and the Royal British Legion.  Guests will then enjoy a special two course lunch together within the Museums hangar, in a private eating area surrounded by aircraft and artefacts, available at a discounted rate.

Veterans will also be treated to tours around the Museum’s Conservation Centre.  Here, Veterans and their guests will be able to view work on current restoration projects, such as the Vickers Wellington and the Handley Page Hampden in an area not normally open to the public.

The afternoon tea dance is sure to get veterans up on their feet as they dance away to live music including songs from Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and others from the 1940’s and 1950’s era.  Free afternoon tea and coffee will be provided.  The day will close with a flypast from the Battle of Britain Dakota, scheduled for 4.10pm (weather permitting).  In addition to these activities the Museum will be holding a raffle on the day with a range of great prizes available.

All-in-all this promises to be an exciting day which will enable Veterans to meet up with old friends, reminisce over shared experiences, and enjoy themselves in the authentic atmosphere and setting of the Royal Air Force Museum. With former Service Men and Women joining in from across Shropshire and the West Midlands, Armed Forces Day is set to be a truly memorable and sentimental gathering for Veterans and their guests to enjoy.

To book your place please call 01902 376 252, register online at or send an email to the Museum at, stating your name, telephone number, service you were in and the name of your guest.  Attendance at this event is by pre-registration only.
